Finding myself on the eastern seaboard having grown up in California, I am sometimes confronted with odd questions like: What do I call someone from Massachusetts? How about Connecticut? Maine? What other slang nicknames are there?
The answers: A Bay Stater,* Nutmegger, and Mainer. At least that’s what Infoplease.com lists (here). About.com has a few more fun nicknames (list here) like Highlander (Colorado), Husker (Nebraska), Hoosier (Indiana), and the ubiqutous Cheesehead (Wisconsin).
* G-rated version. Also a less-than-kind but seemingly commonplace conjunction of Mass-achusetts and a-hole-(in-the-ground).
