The Tate Musuem in Britain has released an free iPhone optimized multimedia tour of their Gustov Klimt “Painting, Design, and Modern Life in Vienna 1900″ exhibit running thru the end of this August 2008. If you don’t have an iPhone you can rent an iPod Touch on the spot for cheap.
It seems the iPhone might be the realization of Tufte’s museum exhibit guide concept. At the least it should provide a free and easy way to interact with exhibits.
The tour “provides a wealth of information about Klimt’s art, life and times. It features photographs of Klimt and his circle as well as music of the period, comments from curators, archive film recordings, and behind the scenes footage showing how the exhibition came together.”
The tour is also available via video podcast for other devices (also free).
